Repeat Home Invasions Have Neighbours on Alert

Two recent home invasions in the Gerrard and Greenwood area have residents on alert. Although the suspect descriptions are different, the timing and proximity of the two crimes raise suspicions that there is a connection.

In both cases, the home owner simply answered a knock at the door and the suspects forcibly entered the premises – this is the mode of entry for most home invasions. As a rule of thumb, most security professionals recommend you never answer the door unless you’re expecting someone.

Invasion #1 – September 6, 2010:

A 55 year old female reports that on September 6, 2010, between 0010 hours and 0200 hours, she was in her apartment in the area of Dundas Street East and Greenwood Avenue when she answered a knock at her door. Two male suspects forced their way into her apartment and made a demand for cash and jewellery. One of the suspects produced a knife and held it to the victim’s throat while the other suspect searched her apartment.

The suspects removed a quantity of cash and fled the scene in an unknown direction. No injuries were sustained by the victim.

Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence. Description of Suspect #1: Male, white, 17 to 19 years, 5’5” to 5’7”, 141 to 161 pounds, thin build. Suspect #2: Male, black, 17 to 19 years, 5’10” to 6’0”, 150 to 180 pounds, stocky build.

Invasion # 2 – September 2, 2010:

A 79 year old male reports that on September 2, 2010 at approximately 1800 hours, he responded to a knock at the door.  A female suspect forced her way into the residence and a struggle ensued. The suspect produced a knife and bit the victim about the chest.

The suspect removed a quantity of cash from the residence and fled the scene southbound on Greenwood Avenue.

The victim suffered minor injuries, but will seek his own medical attention.

Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described person in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect: Female, white, 30 to 35 years, 5’5” to 5’9”, thin build, straight shoulder-length unkempt blond hair.
